Had A "Fruitful" Meeting With Draghi – Greek Finance Minister Varoufakis

FXStreet (Mumbai) - Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis extended his 'European tour' on Wednesday to Frankfurt, where he met European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi to discuss the possibility of debt relief for the embattled country.

The meeting was closed to journalist, so the details of the talks are unknown. However, following the visit, Varoufakis told media outside the ECB building that he had a "fruitful" meeting with Draghi, adding he was "encouraged" by the talks.

This led political commentators to predict a long road ahead for Greece with the ECB, as Draghi seems to be playing hardball with the recently formed Greek government, which on Tuesday unveiled a plan for a bond swap.

He also said he is "eager" to meet with Germany’s Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble on Thursday, promising that the new government will boost the Greek economy.
